This scientic study by Miguel San Sebastián and Anna-Karin Hurtig which was published by the Pan American Journal of Public Health in 2004, discusses the health and environmental effect of oil exploration in the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador, and draws the conclusion that a public health emergency exists.

But Chevron’s defense in the historic environmental trial in Ecuador’s rainforest (“Lago trial”) – where damages could be in the billions of dollars – can hardly be considered “ethical” or respectful of human rights.
